More Member firms add their names to our Wall of Support

SELECT has welcomed six more Member businesses to the online Wall of Support as our crusade for regulation of the electrical industry gathers further momentum.

Firms from across Scotland who have now added a digital ‘brick’ to show their support for protection of title are:

  • Aberdeenshire Electrical Services Ltd
  • Enerlek Ltd
  • Gordon Eason Electrical
  • JK Electrical
  • Power Distribution Contracting Ltd
  • WMQ Building Services

Brian McKenna, Director of Enerlek, said: “I support this campaign wholeheartedly. Too often I have to fix electrical work that’s been installed dangerously and doesn’t conform to any regulations, putting people and premises at risk. The title of electrician must be protected and regulated to ensure people are safe.”

Jim Kerr, Owner of JK Electrical, added: “Hardly a week goes where I don’t come across electrical work of extremely poor standard. I’ve seen some truly shocking installations and feel that the problem of unskilled personnel carrying out electrical work is worsening.

“For this reason, I believe it’s absolutely essential that electricians be given protection of title and I strongly support SELECT’s campaign. Regulating the electrical industry in Scotland would help ensure that those who carry out electrical work are adequately trained and qualified, raising standards and improving safety.”

The new additions join 17 SELECT Member firms and their staff who put forward their names earlier this year, along with leading trade bodies EuropeOn, the National Federation of Roofing Contractors and The Scaffolding Association, and MSPs Martin Whitfield and Michelle Thomson.

The Wall of Support now has more than 80 politicians, trade unions, professional bodies and other organisations backing SELECT’s campaign for regulation of the industry.

Alan Wilson, Managing Director of SELECT, said: “We are delighted that more SELECT Members have answered the call and joined our campaign.

“Their support will help us continue to make an impact in the industry and at the Scottish Parliament as we continue to build momentum.

“I would urge more electrical businesses to join their fellow Members and add their names to the Wall of Support so we can show the strength of feeling that exists over this issue.”
