What BS 7671: 2018 (IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition) course do I need to do?

Each of our BS 7671 courses focus on a different aspect of the Wiring Regulations. Here’s a quick guide:

Course 218 – This is the best course for a general overview of the Wiring Regulations – from start to finish. This course also highlights the changes introduced in the latest Amendment.

Course 209 –This course looks at the process of inspection, testing and certification of new installations, additions and alterations. The focus is on Part 6 of the Wiring Regulations. This is the ideal course if you want to refresh your skills in this area.

Course 214 – The first part of the course covers the same material as course 209 (see above). However, in addition to looking at inspection and testing of new installations, the second day looks at periodic inspection and testing of existing installations including the electrical condition paperwork.

Course 208 – This course is ideal for those who want an in-depth look of the Wiring Regulations. The course also covers design of electrical installations, including cable sizing.

Further information on the BS 7671 course options is available in the BS 7671 Option Summary Document in the BS 7671 section of the website. This gives general information on each option. There is also information on individual course content for each course listed in the website.

If you are undertaking these qualifications to keep up-to-date with Grade Card Requirements, please refer to www.sjib.org.uk for further information. While all of our courses are accepted by the SJIB for Grade Card renewal, it is always best to check with the SJIB or to get additional information from their website as individual circumstances can vary.

What online platform do you use for delivering the virtual classroom sessions?

We use the GoToTraining online platform. Click here to view a quick guide on joining a training session. When you book onto one of our virtual classroom courses, you will receive an automated e-mail from the GoToTraining platform which will include more in-depth instructions for downloading the app etc.

I have booked a course online, what happens next?

The process varies from course to course:

SQA Customised Awards Courses
If you have booked one of our SQA Customised Awards you will receive an email on the next working day with SQA paperwork and access to the online part of the SQA Customised Award programme. Joining instructions with venue details and timings will be sent a couple of weeks before the course date. For most of the courses, information will be sent by email. The Design & Verification course is the only exception. Information for this course will be sent by post, as delegates also receive some study materials prior to the course.

Non SQA Courses
Joining instructions with venue details and timings will be sent a couple of weeks in advance of the course. The ECS Health & Safety TESSA and the Scottish Building Standards joining instructions will be sent by post, as these courses also have course notes that are available for prior study. For the rest of the courses, joining instructions will be sent by email a few weeks before.

Online Scottish Building Standards
You will be registered for the online course on the next working day after you’ve booked online. An automated email with your username and password will be sent to you. You will also be e-mailed a Scheme Guide and SBS Technical Guide.

Online Virtual Classroom Courses
You will be registered for the online virtual classroom course on the next working day after you’ve booked online. An automated email will be sent to the delegate via our GoToTraining platform. If they do not receive this within 24 hours, please contact SELECT Training on 0131 445 5577 or e-mail [email protected] to let us know. The delegate will also be sent reminder e-mails one week, one day and one hour prior to the course start date. This will explain how to download the App and ensure that their audio and webcam options have been tested prior to joining the live classroom session.

What happens if I fail a course?

We will send an email detailing a course of action. In most cases it is simply a matter of arranging to re-sit the multiple choice paper or completing an exercise again. If necessary, we will advise that candidates re-attend a course.

What if the course I want to book is currently unavailable?

Please contact SELECT Training on 0131 445 5577 or e-mail [email protected] and we can take your details and call you when the course has been scheduled onto our training calendar.

I have lost/misplaced my certificate, how can I get a copy?
