MSP Craig adds name to wall during visit to SELECT HQ

MSP Craig Hoy visited SELECT HQ this week, where he added his name to our Wall of Support to show his backing for regulation of the electrical industry.

The MSP for South Scotland held a meeting with senior SELECT staff at The Walled Garden on Monday 11 December, during which he agreed to support our long-running campaign for the introduction of protection of title for electricians.

Mr Hoy also heard how we help businesses across Scotland during his get-together with Managing Director Alan Wilson, Director of Technical Services Bob Cairney, Director of Employment & Skills Fiona Harper and Specifier & Client Relations Manager Yvonne Wilson.

The Conservative MSP said: “I was delighted to join representatives from SELECT to find out more about how the organisation is supporting Scotland’s electricians through ongoing advice and training support.

“There are thousands of people in Scotland claiming to be electricians without adequate training or certification. This is a serious risk to public safety, and we need support in law for qualified electricians.”

Alan said: “We were only too pleased to host Mr Hoy at The Walled Garden and we are delighted that he has added his name to our Wall of Support.

“The issue of rogue electricians continues to be an issue, so securing the cross-party support of politicians like Mr Hoy will help us protect the safety of consumers and businesses across Scotland.”

Mr Hoy’s backing comes after fellow MSP Foysol Choudhury added his name to the Wall earlier this year, along with four leading industry organisations and four electrical companies.

As well as the Labour MSP for Lothian, Associate Members Building Safety Group (BSG), LINIAN, Flexel and Hager put their names to a brick, along with SELECT Member firms Stirling Electrical Services, RW Bell, John McNicol & Co and FT Davidson.

Other bodies that have contributed to the wall include Unite the Union, Electrical Safety First, The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Scottish Association of Landlords and the Energy Saving Trust.
