SQA [SELECT] Customised Award in Initial Verification of Electrical Installations to BS 7671 (18th Edition) - Virtual Classroom & Practical Session (209)

This SQA approved training programme has been designed for practicing qualified electricians who want to keep their skills and knowledge up-to-date in relation to inspection, testing and certification of new electrical installations and additions and alterations.

The aim of this training programme is to help delegates build their knowledge and practical skills in Initial Verification and in the requirements for certification. This course will help delegates understand the requirements contained in the latest version of BS 7671 for such work.

This program is made up of three separate parts.  There is a short (part one) online course* ‘Introduction to BS 7671' then delegate(s) attend the first day of a two-part training course on Initial Verification of Electrical Installations to BS 7671:2018.

Day one of the course will be delivered virtually.  On day two of the course (approximately 2 hours duration) candidates will attend a morning or afternoon practical assessment session at SELECT, The Walled Garden, Midlothian. The session is arranged to enable the assessment of the candidate’s knowledge of inspection, testing and certification requirements. For this a “live” test board simulator will be used in a controlled environment.

* Introduction to BS 7671 (Online Course) – Part One

The online course (part one) provides a basic introduction to BS 7671. The aim of the course is to ensure that delegates can successfully navigate and find key information from the latest version of the IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671:2018. This course takes a few hours to complete and can be completed in stages. This online course can be completed on PC’s or Ipads.
To complete the online course, candidates will need access to Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition Wiring Regulations) BS 7671:2018 (blue book).

The online (course) component complements the material that will be covered on the following two-part training course. To get the most from the training we recommend that delegates complete the online course before attending the two-part course.

Note: The online course is compulsory for this program and we recommend that it's completed prior to attending day one of the program.

Day one - Principles

• Inspection of new installations.
• Testing of new installations including continuity of conductors, insulation resistance, polarity, earth electrode resistance, earth fault loop impedance, prospective fault current
and RCDs test.
• Virtual demonstration of Inspection and testing procedures and interpretation of results.
• Virtual demonstration of results obtained to complete a schedule of inspections and schedule of test results.
• Review of the Certification Requirements required for new installations and additions and alterations as confirmed in Chapter 64.

Day two delivered in Glasgow

Day two (practical session approx. 2 hours) Assessment consists of a mix of practical exercises and certification using test board simulators.
