Initial Application

To be eligible to make an initial application for an ECS Manager's card you will need to meet both the Technical and Health & Safety qualification requirements, plus hold and ECS HS&E Assessment.

Technical Requirement

There are two routes that can be followed when applying for an ECS Manager's card.

Route 1 - If you already have an ECS gold card or meet the gold card requirements.

If you already have an ECS gold card as a Technician, Approved Electrician, Electrician, Maintenance Electrician or meet the requirements for one of these cards, you are eligible to apply for an ECS Manager's card. You will also need to provide evidence of a minimum Level 4 Health and Safety qualification as described below.

Route 2 - If you hold a Level 4 UK Management qualification

You can also apply for an ECS Manager’s card with a UK management qualification at Level 4 or above such as BTEC, a diploma or degree in Management. You will also need to provide evidence of a minimum Level 4 Health & Safety qualification as described below.

Health and Safety Requirement

Whether you are applying under Route 1 or Route 2, you must also hold one of the following Health and Safety qualifications at Level 4 or above:

Construction Skills (CITB) Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
CCNSG Safety Passport – Supervising/Leading a Team Safety course
NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety
UK Degree level Health and Safety qualification

*PLEASE NOTE: Original SMSTS/SSSTS Certificates only will be accepted. Do not send SMSTS/SSSTS Refresher Certificates as these will NOT be accepted as a Level 4 Qualification.
(The SMSTS/SSSTS Refresher qualifications will only be accepted as an exemption if your original SMSTS/SSSTS Qualification is over three years old and a copy of this is also included).

And ECS HS&E Assessment

To complete your application, you will also need the ECS HS&E assessment.

An ECS HS&E assessment would not be required if your Level 4 (or above) Health and Safety qualification has been completed within the last three years. However, if you achieved one of the above-mentioned qualifications over three years ago then you must also have completed an ECS HS&E Assessment, or approved exemption within the last 30 months.

Please note that the exemptions are for the ECS HS&E Assessment. They are not exemptions for the Level 4 Health & Safety qualification requirement for this card.
